Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar is a British and American sitarist. She also plays music. She was the youngest and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Shield she's received Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live and to act as a host at the ceremony. Anoushka is a emerging star of Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil and is also his daughter. She was born London in 1982. During her first years she split between London New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her debut when she was only thirteen years of age. At the age of 13, she finished her high schooling at Encinitas CA. Even though she's very young Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording record. Since quite some time, she performs regularly alongside her father. In 1998, she released her first single album Anourag. It was followed by Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years later. Stage performance is a important aspect of her life. She has performed in a variety of major venues all over the globe. The career of Anoushka doesn't only include music. In 2002, she wrote a book entitled Bapi The Love of My Live this is an illustrated biography that gives a special tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. in 2003 she appeared in Dance Like a Man as the Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her career and will surely be other things to be expected from this talented woman. Anoushka was born in England, but spent most of her childhood between London in the UK and Delhi. She then moved to California and attended the high school there. Anoushka started her music studies at the age of nine. After four years she performed her appearance on the sitar in Delhi for her father's 70th birthday celebration. Anoushka has gained lots of experience by touring around the globe along with her father. She played at Carnegie Hall in her teenage years, and recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. The House of Commons Shield was presented to her by the British Parliament in recognition of being the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the sole female and the youngest winner of this award.
